“Where do you get your papers?
The papers I use come from talented makers and designers all over the world. I collect washi papers from Japan, ranging from delicate florals to bold geometrics. In London, I look for hand-printed decorative papers — subtle stripes, vintage-inspired florals, and timeless damask patterns. Italian papers often feature rich textures, classic motifs, and vibrant colors, while Parisian papers include whimsical illustrations and intricate designs that feel elegant yet playful.
Here are some of my favorites…
I love how these papers come together in a collage. Patterns camouflage themselves, merging seamlessly with others, yet certain designs stand out. It’s always fascinating to hear the pattern viewers notice first — each person experiences the work in a slightly different way.
Many of the patterns also remind me of the wallpapers from my great grandmother’s house in Passaic, NJ. I believe patterns carry meaning on a level we all understand, even if we can’t name it.
Every piece is cut by hand, using scissors. I use an X-Acto knife occasionally for more nuanced shapes.
I use archival PVA glue so the collages stay vibrant over time, preserving both the papers and the care that went into making them.
