SPECIAL PROJECT
THE LONDON COLLAGE PROJECT
LONDON • MAY 2025
In May 2025, I was selected to participate in The London Collage Project, an international collage residency hosted by Les Jones, publisher of Contemporary Collage Magazine, and mentored by renowned collage artist Cecil Touchon.
For one week, 18 collage artists from around the world came together in London to make work, exchange ideas, and push our practices in new directions. For me, the city itself became part of the process.
I made all of the work during the residency using papers I purchased, found, or collected throughout London. Wallpaper samples, books, maps, stationery, magazines, and other fragments became the raw material for a small body of work rooted in the city.
THE WORK
DELANEY AND MORRIS began with flower imagery created by Mary Delany, the groundbreaking 18th-century British collage artist, paired with imagery from William Morris, one of London's most influential wallpaper designers. The result became an almost underwater landscape, with clouds moving through it like fish.
COPPER BOX grew from my fascination with London's rooftops. An inverted image of illuminated windows became the starting point, alongside imagery of the Copper Box Arena, a reminder of the city's constant collision between old and new.
BUCKINGHAM ATLAS combines multiple views of Buckingham Palace from an enormous atlas of London with decorative papers, wallpaper samples, and stationery discovered during the residency.
THE PEOPLE
One of the most valuable parts of the residency was being surrounded by artists whose approaches to collage were completely different from my own. The week became as much about conversation, critique, experimentation, and friendship as it was about making work.
The residency culminated in an exhibition in Hackney Wick, bringing together the work created during the week.
